Suggested Guidelines for Assessing the Intersection of the Rights of Traditional and Indigenous Peoples, Group Rights, and Freedom of Religion and Belief.

One of the major project undertaken during 2024 was development of Suggested Guidelines for Assessing the Intersection of the Rights of Traditional and Indigenous Peoples, Group Rights, and Freedom of Religion and Belief.  This project was guided by Nicholas P.  Miller and Alexis Artaud de La Ferrière, representatives of the International Religious Liberty Institute and members of IF20s Subcommittee on Freedom of Religion or Belief.  An initial version was framed during the IF20 Event held in Belem in June, 2024, and various refinements were added during the annual G20 Interfaith Forum held in Brasilia in August, 2024.

The Suggested Guidelines were developed on the basis of discussions with indigenous leaders, representatives of diverse religious communities, and experts on group rights and on freedom of religion or belief.  The aim of the resulting document was to suggest practical considerations that apply when wrestling with the overlap between indigenous and traditional religions, group rights, and general freedom of religion or belief principles.
